Sharing is Caring

I know how beautiful and courageous it is to dip the pen in the inkwell early on, then to stay motivated, finding other voices to keep you inspired. Never give up. Always dare to dream... In the electronic age, all can be heard. The depth of your audience is up to you.

I need your feedback. I just finished the first draft of my new 70,000 word novel tentatively titled THE RAIN DANCE LAWYER. Need a better hook for a title, I think.

The Pitch: Fresh out of law school, a brilliant young attorney with Indian and cowboy roots and his ranching girlfriend uncover a murder-for-hire scheme at his prestigious Colorado water law firm. While unraveling the mystery they devise a scheme with the help of a retired Indian senator and his friends to outmaneuver hired killers, corrupt lawyers and powerful politicians.  Is water really worth killing for? It is in the still wild, wild west.

Getting ready to release WAKING PURGATORY. Working on the cover design.

So many literary agents out there to contact! So little time!

In my stories I often write about life and death. Fictional characters all... But in real life, so many wonderful people I have known are no longer with me. A personal reminder of the short lives we have. Love the ones you're with. They may be gone tomorrow.

Stagnant fingers

Time for me to focus on all things writing. I published a book for a lawyer and am finishing one for a cancer survivor. My new book Waking Purgatory is languishing while I wait for replies from agents. I am halfway done with The Water Lawyer but working a 55 hour week and taking on other prjects has pretty much shut down my own creative flow. All it takes is a nice fat lotto ticket to write full-time. There is no one on the horizon at death's door with me in their will... Memo to self: Stop bitching, eliminate the need for social interaction, stay home, stare at the dogs and walls and write!www.barryhickey.biz

How is this for my MIDNIGHT IN PURGATORY logline? A beautiful 38-year old widow and her prodigious 12-year old twins are invited to the small town of Purgatory to start a new life. Or so they think. What really happened here 18 years ago? What is about to happen again at the old cemetery on All Hallows Eve? Why are the locals playing with God? Does the ancient order known as ECHO really exist? Trust no one! Never accept a double-dare! And never, never ever open the ancient door that leads to heaven ... or is it hell? http://ping.fm/4DFpj

Novelist Barry James Hickey has invented a new breed of book - the SPEED NOVEL. Not a novella, not a screenplay. Crisp, tight writing at a breakneck pace that can be read in under two hours.
